華道
「華道」は、「生け花」という呼び方で知られる日本の伝統文化です。
西洋で「フラワーアレンジ」と呼ばれるものに該当するのかもしれませんが、本質的には、西洋のフラワーデザインと日本の「華道」は、意味合いが大きく異なります。
最も大きな違いは、花に向かう意識や姿勢です。
「フラワーアレンジ」は、言うなれば「美しさと華やかさ」があれば成立するものですが、「華道」は、人々の自然を尊ぶ心、また価値観や精神性が大きく重視されるもので、草花を装飾することが全てではありません。
私たちの生活は、古くから自然との結びつきが深く、その自然への神聖な気持ちが「神道」を生み出しました。
そして、寒い日も風の日も凛と咲く花に魂が宿ると考え、仏前に花を供えたり、神に花を捧げてきたのです。
このように、花を単に「美しい」ものとして捉えず、命ある尊いものとして捉えることから、華道の歴史は始まりました。
花を生ける人がどんなに優れた技術を持っていても、本当の「華人」になることはできません。
代々、花に命を捧げてきた師は、弟子たちに厳しい修行を課し、花の真髄を見極めること、そして本人の精神性を鍛えていったのです。
こうして、儀式的に「華の道＝生け花」は日本の伝統文化を極めました。
華道は茶道同様に、ジャポニズムの流れを受けて西洋世界に知られるようになり、西洋のフラワーアレンジに大きな影響を与えています。

Kadou
"Kadou" is a traditional culture of Japan, known as "ikebana".
Perhaps it is relevant to the "flower arrangement" in the West, but Western flower design and Japanese kadou is very different in essence.
The most significant difference is the awareness and attitude towards the flower.
While flower arrangement is, so to speak, based on "beauty and opulence, "Kadou" is not just decorating flowers but it requires the mind of respecting nature and also those values and spirituality.
Our lives are deeply ties with nature from ancient times, and the sacred feeling to nature has led to "Shinto".
And, it is considered that the soul inhabits a blooming flower even in a cold day or a windy day and flowers are arranged at a mortuary tablet or devoted to deities.
Thus, flowers are not considered just as beautiful objects but as the precious lives in kadou, And it is the origin of the history of kadou.
Even if you have a superior technique of arranging flowers, you cannot be a true "kajin".
From generation to generation, teachers who have dedicated his life to the flower have imposed a strict discipline to his disciples, and they enhance abilities to appropriately assess the essence of the flower and enhance their own spirits.
Thus, "the way of flower = ikebana" has been ritually enhanced as a Japanese traditional culture.
Kadou has been known as the influence of Japonisme same as Sadou in the Western world and it has influenced significantly on the Western flower arrangements.
