神道
神道は、私たち日本人が、古くから生活の中で培ってきた日本固有の信仰形態です。
元々「神道」という名前はありませんでしたが、6世紀に仏教が伝来し、仏教と区別するために、古くから日本にあった信仰を「神道」と呼ぶようになりました。
しかし、「神道」には、宗教の条件にもなる教典や教祖はなく、布教活動も行いません。
またこのように、教典で勉強することや教祖から学ぶこともないことから、その概念は非常にわかりづらくなっています。
しかし、神道の本質は実に単純なものです。
それは、我々は自然との調和の中で生き、自然界に神を見出し、それを奉ることです。
ですから、私たちは神を木々や石、またそれに限らず、偉業を成し遂げた祖先たちにも神を見出します。
その神の多さを「八百万の神」といい、私たちはものなどに対し、「神が宿る」という概念を持ちます。
キリスト教で、神＝キリストですが、このように私たちは自然との調和の中で、多くのものに神を見出しているのです。
そして、自然と共生し、それを体系化したことを随所で行います。
例えば神社のお参り、初詣、受験生の合格祈願、節分、神輿担ぎなどです。
このように、神道への信仰を具体化した行いを私たちは古くから習慣として見に付けていて、全てのものが尊いという気持ちを持って暮らしています。
神道は、私たちの生活にも精神にも自然に根付いた考え方なのです。

Shinto
Shinto is the unique form of religion in Japan which has developed in our everyday lives for thousands of years.
While the belief system had existed as a nameless ancient religion, it was named "Shinto" after the arrival of Buddhism in the 6th century in order to distinguish it from Buddhism.
However, Shinto is not one of typical religions which usually have scriptures, the guru, or missionary works.
Shinto does not have scriptures nor the guru, so that its ideas are difficult to understand.
However, principles of Shinto are very simple.
Shinto teaches the ideal of a life that is in harmony with and united with nature, and deities within nature are revered.
Trees, stones, and also our ancestors who have created and developed their ideas are considered as symbols of divine spirits.
There is a unique view of religion to revere "eight million different deities".
Shinto represents a world view that deities reside in all things within nature.
While Jesus Christ was and is God in Christianity, deities reside in all things in a life that is in harmony with nature in Shinto.
Also, Shinto shrines have rituals and special events being in harmony with nature.
For example, the worship at shrine, the practice of visiting a shrine during the New Year, praying for success in entrance examinations, the bean-throwing festival of celebrating the coming of spring, and carrying the portable shrine, etc.
In this way, a variety of rituals and festivals have been conducted by each Shinto shrine since ancient times, so that it has been believed that all things are divine.
Shinto has the idea that has spontaneously influenced both on our lives and minds.
