日本人の性格
私たち日本人は、日本人を主観的に見ています。
それでは、諸外国から見て、日本人はどのような性格を持った人々なのでしょうか？
私自身、様々な国を旅行して外国人と交流した経験が豊富にありますが、改めてここで、「日本人特有の性格」について、考えてみたいと思います。
日本人の性格を特徴を現すものとして、
- 過度に集団行動を好む
- 礼儀正しくきちんと挨拶をする
- 秩序にこだわる
- 綺麗好き
- 美意識が高い
- 仕事が丁寧
- 時間や約束を守る
- 自己主張や自己表現が下手。逆に、それが奥ゆかしく、日本人の美徳にもなり得る
- 治安が良く、災害時でも冷静。但し危機管理が甘いことも事実
- 細部までこだわる（例：整理整頓、ギフト包装など）
- 創造性に溢れている（例：アニメやオタク文化など）
- 宗教対立がなく、テロもない
- 貯金が好きで、倹約意識が高い（「勿体無い」という言葉に象徴される）
などが挙げられます。
これは、あくまで外国人目線の、日本人の性格の特徴です。
私たちは普段集団行動ばかりしているので、自分たちを特別に「集団好きの民族」などとは思ったりしないでしょう。
そして、ここに挙げられるものは、プラスとして捉えられるものも多いのですが、マイナスに捉えられるものもあります。
しかしながら、日本人の誠実な対人関係や仕事ぶりは世界中でお手本とされ、日本のイメージはプラスマイナスで言うと、プラスに傾くことが多い気がします。

Japanese personality and character
We, Japanese see ourselves subjectively.
Then, how or what is Japanese national character viewed from people in the other countries?
I myself have traveled to various countries and had a lot of communication experiences with foreigners.
Then, I would like to consider "a personality stereotype or characterization peculiar to Japan".
The characteristics that represent Japanese personality and character are the followings:
- Prefering obligations to the community to individual rights.
- Being polite and respectful in greeting someone.
- Believing in order and stability.
- Being tidy.
- Having a good aesthetic sense.
- Working carefully.
- Being punctual and keeping a promise.
- Being not good at expressing themselves and their own opinions, which can be modesty or a Japanese virtue.
- Being calm even if the disaster occurs, but not good at managing risk control.
- Being particular about the details.(ex. tidying, gift wrapping)
- Being creative. (ex. animation, Otaku culture)
- Having no religious conflict and no terrorism.
- Being thrifty and tending to save money. ( symbolized by the word "mottainai")
and so on.
These are characteristics of the Japanese personality viewed from people in foreign countries.
We do not particularly recognize that we are "a gregarious race" as most people are gregarious in Japan.
In addition, while most of these characteristics mentioned above are regarded as good ones, some are not.
However, good characteristics of sincere relationships with others and attitudes for works are viewed as role models in the world and the impression of Japan tends to be positive rather than negative.
