感動した友人の言葉
これは私個人の話になります。
私は2011年3月11日の東日本大震災後、香港でイギリス人の友人に会いました。
震災直後にその友人は私と連絡を取ろうと必死になっていましたが、日本の電話回線が繋がらなくて、心配してくれていたんです。
そして3月下旬に会って、改めて色々なことを聞かれました。
具体的に、「あなたの身に何があったの？」と。
私は幸いにも無事でした。
しかし、実家のガスや電気が止まっていて、食事の支度もできずに大変な思いをしていて、そのことについて話しました。
そしてその後、こんなことを言ってくれたんです。
「あんな大惨事があったらどんな大国でも破壊されてしまうと思った。けど、日本では暴動も起きないし、みんなが協力しあって頑張っているようだ。それは凄いことだと思う。ほかの国の人ならできない。互いを思いやって、助け合う姿にとても感動した。改めて、日本人は素晴らしいと思った。日本人なら、必ず今の厳しい状況から立ち直れると信じている」と・・・・。
正直、感動して涙が出そうになりました。
私は、自分の国で起こったことを全く客観的に見ることができなかったのですが、外国人の目には、私たちの姿がとても崇高なものに映っていたようなのです。
この評価は、震災後の疲れを十分に癒してくれるくらいの力を持ち、私は涙をこらえ、ひたすら彼の言葉を心の中で反芻しました。
本当に、有り難い言葉だと思いました。

My friend's words impressed me
This is my personal story.
I met a British friend in Hong Kong just after the Great East Japan Earthquake of 11th March 2011.
Although my friend was trying to contact me immediately after the earthquake, Japan's telephone line was not available, so he was worried about me.
And I met him at the end of March and he asked me about various things and what happened to me exactly.
Fortunately, I was safe.
I discussed that gas and electricity were stopped, so it was difficult to cook and live a life.
After that, my friend said as below:
"I thought any countries would be destroyed by such a catastrophe. But even riots have not occurred and people have worked hard and cooperated with one another, which is very impressive and never been seen in other countries. I was very impressed that people help each other and I though Japanese people are great. I believe that Japanese can recover from such as difficult situation."
Honestly. I was almost crying.
I was not able to see what happened in my country objectively, but our efforts seem noble for people in other countries.
This evaluation made us recover from fatigue after the earthquake.
I listened to him carefully.
I thought it was such precious words.
