儒教
私たち日本人の生活の中には、「儒教の精神」もまた強く根付いています。
儒教の根本的な考え方は、「五常」（仁・義・礼・智・信）に集約され、特に「仁」は、儒教の最も重要な教えとされています。
「仁」とは、思いやりのことです。
私たちは、この「仁」の精神を基本として、古くから道徳心を養ってきました。
そしてそれに付随するように、
- 「義」（利欲なしにやるべきことをやる）
- 「礼」（「仁」を行動化し、礼儀を重んじる）
- 「智」（学問に励む）
- 「信」（誠実で正直、約束を守る）
を日々の中で実践しています。
それは意図的にする部分もあるかも知れませんが、大抵は日本人なら生まれながらにして持っている気質そのものです。
私たちは電車の中でお年寄りがいると席を譲る、ということは、成長過程のどこかで、無意識に学んでいるでしょう。
それは、社会全体が儒教精神を取り入れ、それに影響されているからです。
また、「日本人は信頼できる。嘘をつかないし、約束を守る」と諸外国では賞賛されますが、それは儒教の精神でいう「信」が各々に身に付いているからだと思います。
一部の人たちの間で、「礼」という概念があることで上下関係に縛られ、自己実現ができないという批判もあります。
しかし、年長者が得てきたものを真摯に受け止め、そこから何かを学んでいくという部分は、むしろ美徳とされるところだと思われます。

Confucianism
Confucianism has exerted an immeasurable influence on Japanese spiritual life.
The fundamental idea of Confucianism is in "five Confucian virtues", in particular, "Jin" is the most important doctrine of Confucianism.
"Jin" means benevolence.
The spirit of "Jin" has been taught as the basic moral since long ago.
In addition, we have learned and practiced other doctrines below in our lives.
- "Gi" (justice, the upholding of righteousness and the moral disposition to do good)
- "Rei" (courtesy, ordering of life conforming to the norms of "Jin")
- "Chi" (wisdom, studying hard)
- "Shin" (sincerity, honesty, and keeping a promise)
Although some might do consciously, most of Japanese people have acquired and practiced it naturally.
People have learned unconsciously to give up a seat for an elderly person on the train from their childhood.
The spirit of Confucianism influences on the the whole society.
Furthermore, it is often said that "Japanese people are reliable, they do not tell a lie, and they always keep promises." It would be because people have acquired the spirit of Confucianism, "Shin" themselves.
Some criticize the situation that the spirit of “Rei” makes people care about a vertical relationships in an organization and it leads to be difficult for people to pursue self-realization.
However, it would be a virtue to learn knowledge from the elderly sincerely.
