侘び・寂び
「侘び・寂び」という日本人独自の考え方は、恐らくどの言語にも正確に翻訳できないと思います。
それだけ特殊で曖昧な存在であり、ある意味で日本人に対する理解の壁になる部分になるのかもしれません。
「侘び」は「侘ぶ」という動詞の名詞形で、元々は「わびしい、悲しい」という意味です。
一方「寂び」は「寂ぶ」という動詞の名詞形で、こちらの意味は「さびていく、廃れていく」というようなことで、「侘び・寂び」は、どちらも否定的な感情表現の場で使われます。
しかし、日本人は古くから、物悲しい様に美しさを見出してきたのです。
例えば、散りゆく桜、落ち葉、こけに覆われた岩など、自然界でも生き生きとした自然より、むしろ命が終わる様に情緒を見出してきた面があります。
茶道では千利休が始めた「侘び茶」というものがありますが、その際に利用される茶室や茶具は、質素で豪華さとは無縁です。
そして何もない所だからこそ、精神性のみを高めることに集中することができ、「禅」の思想を体現することができるのです。
日本の伝統宗教や伝統行事は、見た目の豪華さではなく、精神性や静寂を好む傾向があり、これもまた「侘び・寂び」を感じさせます。
どの文献を読んでもいまいちピンとくる表現のないネガティブな美、はかないものを愛する心、これが、日本人特有の美しさを形成しているのです。

Wabi-Sabi
Japanese unique idea, "wabi-sabi" probably cannot be accurately translated into any language, which is a special and ambiguous word.
Therefore, it might prevent people from understanding Japanese people in a sense.
"Wabi" is the noun form of the verb "Wabu", which originally means "dreary or sad."
On the other hand, "sabi" is the noun form of the verb "sabu", which means "deteriorating or declining".
The word of "wabi-sabi" is used to express negative feelings.
However, Japanese people have found a beauty within melancholy since ancient times.
They have found a beauty within conditions of a life ending, such as scattered cherry blossom, fallen leaves, and a rock covered in moss rather than lively nature.
Sen no Rikyu created "wabicha", literally "poverty tea style"; known as the tea ceremony.
Teahouse and tea utensils used for it are frugal rather than luxurious.
They are able to focus only on enhancing their spirituality in the frugal environment, so that they are able to embody the spirit of "Zen".
Traditional and religious events in Japan tend to embrace spirituality and serenity rather than the luxurious appearance, which also suggest the spirit of "wabi-sabi".
The negative beauty that is not able to be expressed exactly in any literatures and the mind of loving ephemeral things form the Japanese unique beauty.
